Midnight Home

Midnight Home

Tell us who you are.

My name is Chalisse, the owner of Midnight Home. I‘m currently finishing up my BFA in Metalsmithing after a long hiatus. I’m also obsessed with Beyoncé.

What inspired you to create Midnight Home?

It’s actually something I wanted to do for a long time but was too scared if I’m honest. I have been thrifting and antiquing since I was a kid and it’s always been a passion of mine. In the past few years I really started to research and refine my process and the objects I picked. I felt like I had gotten to a point where I had a unique perspective to offer people. Also one person does not need 10 lamps lol

Why is vintage important to you?

Almost everything I own is either vintage or second hand. I love the stories that come with objects we love as well as the uniqueness it can bring to a space. Something about knowing these items had a past life really appeals to me. I think it's also important to buy second hand/ vintage for the quality and the sustainability factor.

What are you looking for when you source vintage?

When sourcing for Midnight Home I’m looking for objects that speak to me. I’ve always loved art history and design history so I’m attracted to many eras and time periods. Condition is obviously crucial l but I try to have a nice variety of unique, one of a kind pieces.

What inspired you to create Midnight Home?

I was inspired to create Midnight home based on my obsession of the hunt (it’s kind of embarrassing how deep I can get) and because I wanted to see more people that look like me in this field. At a certain point I realized I was finding stuff for my friends and family and rarely stuff for myself. I really love the thrill of the hunt, I’m addicted.

What is your dream home?

My dream home is a space where I can live and work. My dream home has a nice finished basement to store all my pieces.

What does home mean to you?

Home is my safe place. I’m a homebody so home has always been super
important to me. It’s where I recharge and relax. I love being home surrounded by my favorite things and my fiancé. Home is everything.

How do you rest, restore, and reenergize?

I love to take naps and long walks. I try to take a nap whenever I can, I just feel so refreshed after. Taking a long walk is another way I reenergize. I’ll put on a good podcast or playlist and usually go for an hour long walk.

What are some tips on sourcing vintage?

I don’t know if this is practical for a lot of people but always have your eye open. I’m hunting all the time and plan my vacations or weekend trips around sourcing new areas. I rarely pass a thrift or antique that I don’t go into. Some of the best things I have found were in places I almost didn’t go into. That
dingy looking store that’s only open once a week? Go in! You never know. Having an open mind is essential to finding cool pieces.
