Tell us who you are.

I’m Katrina, the Founder and Creative Director of Goods Gang, an independent design studio that specializes in custom wedding and personal stationery, and other printed goods. I’m also a wife to my husband (Sean), mother to my two-year-old daughter (Raye), and dog mom to our two pups (Parker and Hunter).

What inspired you to start Goods Gang?

So many things. I’ve been obsessed with stationery and paper ever since I was a little girl, so I think print design was always embedded in my DNA. I worked as a Visual / UX Designer in tech for almost a decade, so I’ve spent a lot of time honing my skills in creating complicated design systems. And I’ve always felt like I have a unique and specific aesthetic, often unsatisfied with what was out there with regards to certain products I wanted for myself. Those (and many other factors) pushed me into creating Goods Gang, which is basically a culmination of my skills and personal style wrapped up as my dream job.

What is your favorite part of designing wedding stationery?

Getting married is such a milestone for most of us. I feel so blessed that people come to me for such an important life event, and I love knowing that. Creating stationery for others to commemorate such a special moment in time is something I try to cherish in the hustle and bustle of getting work done.

What does home mean to you?

Everything. We’re a family of homebodies, so if I don’t feel at home, I don’t feel grounded — which means I feel frenzied, which is my own personal hell. AND I’m an insane perfectionist so I spend a lot of time and energy decorating, researching and buying the perfect household items, and crafting my house into exactly how I want it. My home needs to be a place where I feel the most comfortable, and somewhere that truly speaks to my personality.

How would you describe your home's personality?

I would say it’s first and foremost, practical. I’m also an insane minimalist, so we have very few things. Everything has a very specific purpose and all the items we own (down to our choice of chopsticks) are chosen via a very intentional process based on aesthetics and usefulness. At times we do choose special pieces of furniture or decor, so there are some pops of color and interest.

How do you rest, restore, and re-energize?

The strategy can vary for me. I either need to get out of town for a change of scenery and new experience, or I hunker down at home, and obsessively clean, organize, and get mindless house chores done.

What has been your favorite project to work on?

Goods Gang as a whole, for sure.

What advice can you give to aspiring graphic designers?

Never stop looking for inspiration. Never stop creating. Never underestimate how much of your soul belongs to your art.
