Jose of Proud Millennial really understands that and he creates content to help others build a comfortable space while showing his journey and process. Jose gave us insight on why you should be obsessed with interior design and how you can be more mindful in your decorating.
What inspired you to start creating YouTube videos?
I had been wanting to start a YouTube page for years. I gave it my first try in 2017 when I first moved out on my own. Everyone was loving my interior design, and I had an Etsy shop. I was a bit younger and did have as much discipline or even a strategy or plan so it flopped. In 2020 I decided to give it another shot. Friends and family would always tell me that I should start one, and then I just jumped in and haven't looked back.
I am a teacher at heart. I love helping others find their style, and I figured that YouTube was a place where I could do that. I am reminded daily by people I don't even know that there is a place for me, and that my style opinions do matter!

What are your favorite pieces in your home?
My favorite piece right now is this large painting I made. I wanted a large piece of art, but I wanted something unique. I had a concept in mind and decided to make an abstract piece myself. I went out to look for a canvas to buy, but I had no idea how much a big artist canvas like this cost. So, I decided to make the canvas myself. Then I got to painting. And here is the product. It's simple, edgy, and makes a statement.
The concept is people spending time together. At the time, gathering felt like a dream since we were all quarantined at home, but I just love the piece now!
What does your dream home look like?
My dream home! Ah! I am such an indecisive person. Part of me just loves being in a new place every few years. But if I had to choose the home of my dreams, I would choose an older craftsman style house. Maybe one that I could restore and add my own touch to. I love to mix old with new, so that is exactly what I would do.
I would also love a big backyard where I can build a beautiful garden with fruit trees and roses. My father was a landscaper and we would help him during the summers. As kids we hated the fact that we had to work during the summer. Now I just miss the smell of freshly cut grass and the satisfaction of planting a new plant and watching it grow!

What does home mean to you?
Home is a place where you feel most you. I think we forget that our homes are really customizable. You are the decision maker. Why not make your home a reflection of who you are?! There is nothing like coming home from a long day of work and remembering who you really are!
When I first moved out on my own, I remember trying to have my home done and fully decorated as soon as possible. This led me to choosing pieces and items that I didn't even enjoy. Through the years I've been working on replacing those items with items I truly love. Slowly my home feels like a true reflection of me! That is what makes a place feel like home!

How do you rest, restore, and reenergize?
My rest includes spending time with people I love. I love chatting and eating lol. I also love spending time with my artistic friends who just let me rant about all the wild ideas I've had. Many of them don't come true, but I am always having a new business or art idea.
To restore myself, I love to take long walks. I try to hike up to the Griffith Observatory a few times a week. I also love taking a walk around the Silver Lake Reservoir. Especially when the sun is about to set. If you look north, you will spot a beautiful view of the mountains and beautifully colored skies. It inspires me and re-energizes me.

What are you working on next?
My biggest project now is my new apartment. I am working on every room, and trying to make it a home. I am also working on some new YouTube content that will highlight my apartment transformation. It will all include shopping tips, DIYs, styling tips, etc... I'm so excited to put it all together and reveal it soon!
